MARY TURPIN BENNION'S PATRIARCHAL BLESSINGS
Patriarchal Blessing given at West Jordan, Nov. 14, 1856, by John Young, upon the head of Mary Turpin, Daughter of William and Elizabeth, born Jan. 25, 1841, in Yorkshire England. Father assisted.
Sister Mary in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by virtue of the Holy Priesthood, we the servants of the Lord lay our hands upon your head to bless you with a father's blessing and to predict those things that shall come to pass during your pilgrimage here, and we pray that the Holy Spirit may rest down that the things may be dictated which are for you. In as much as you are a lawful heir through Joseph and Ephriam you are entitled to the blessings of the gospel, and as you have obeyed the gospel in your youthful days and it is your desire to keep the commandments of God, I seal upon you the blessings of the new covenant, and say that upon conditions of faithfulness you shall be blest from this time forth and forever. You shall live to a good old age, help build up the kingdom, and in the own due time of the Lord, you shall have an agreeable companion and have a numerous posterity and they shall be an honor to you. I pray that the angel of life and mercy may be with you continually and that you may be preserved in the paths of innocence all the days of your life, that your heart may be filled with wisdom, that the Holy Spirit may be with you. I say that if faithful, you will be like Mary of Old hearing the words of eternal life from your redeemer. For all times of trouble and distress thou shall be delivered, be blest with dreams and visions and all the gifts that your heart can desire, and thou shalt be a comfort to those that shall be associated with thee, be a blessing to thy progenitors, and in connection with those of the family to which you belong, shall do a great and glorious work and your name shall be honored among the saints of God. We say unto you that you shall have part in the first resurrection and the destroyer shall not have power over you, but you shall be able to govern and control all under your jurisdiction. I pray that you may adorn your profession, and all with whom you are acquainted. These and all blessings that you desire, I seal upon your head and I do it by virtue of the Holy Priesthood, and I say that you shall be numbered with those whom John saw with Palms of Victory in their hands, for I confer these upon you by virtue of the Holy annointing and sealing power which I hold and in the anem of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, even so. Amen.

Sister Mary T. Bennion according to thy desire I place my hands upon thy head to pronounce and seal a Blessing upon thee that thy heart may be comforted, thy lineage made known and so far as the spirit shall direct, thy path may be marked out and I ask God the Eternal Father for his spirit on this occasion and to (indicate) this Blessing. Thou art of the House of Israel and through obedience thy name is written in the Lambs book of Life and registered in the chronicles of our fathers and I say unto thee be of good cheer, remember the teachings of thy parents and in thy reflections go back to early youth and thou shall realize that the hand of the Lord is over thee and although thy life has been some what checkered thy guardian angel has not forsaken thee for from early youth thou has been true to thy trust, honest in thy belief and thou hast been preserved from the evils of the earth, the power of the destroyer and some influences which the adversary hath striven to bring to bare to lead thee unto (him) by forbiden paths. The Lord has witnessed thy trials and at an early day a decree did go forth that you had a mission to fulfill for this thy life has been preserved. Let thy faith fail not for the Lord knoweth the secrets of thy heart. Thy days and years shall be prolonged until thy mission is completed and thine inheritance secured. Thou art of Ephriam and numbered among the mothers in Israel, it is thy duty from this time forth to counsel among thy associates, that the younger may receive benefit through thy experience in times past. Thou has great faith in the ordinances in the Lords House, through prayer and faith the sick have been healed the destroyer rebuked and health and peace has reigned in thy dwelling and I say unto thee look forward to the future with pleasure for thou shall in no wise loose thy reward. It has been thy disposition to be kind to all and for thy kindness thou art remembered and thy name shall live in honarable rememberance among the saints therefore be comforted for a good thing shall be held for thee and by reflection thy memory shall receive strength, and wisdom shall be given thee that thou shalt counsel in righteousness and the younger shall rejoice in thy teachings. This with thy former blessings I seal upon thee in the name of Jesus Christ and I seal thee up unto Eternal Life to come forth in the morning of the first resurrection, even so, amen.

A blessing given by James McGhie Patriarch to Mary Turpin Bennion, daughter of William Turpin and Elizabeth Tidswell, born in Birkinshaw, Yorkshire England January 25, 1841.
Sister Bennion in the authority of the Holy Priesthood and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I lay my hands upon your Head and Bless you with a Patriarchal blessing. I Bless you with bodily health and strength. Thy lineage is in Ephriam, through the loins of Joseph. The Lord is well pleased with all the labor that you have done upon the earth, and your children after you shall sing your praises and remember you in sweet remembrances, and the Lord will comfort your heart and will unto much wisdom and knowledge, and you shall minister wisely amongst you sex and fear not nor tremble, but speak as the Lord will give you utterance. For he shall be with your mouth even as he was with the prophet Moses, the leader of Israel. Your words shall be full of good counsel that shall be a benefit to all those who shall hear it, and thy name shall live in the memory of the Saints, even as thy Husband's name lives in the memory of the Saints, for neither you nor he shall ever be forgotten. You shall yet minister in the temples of the Lord and complete a great work for the redemption of your dead, and they shall look upon you forever as their savior and as the one who did the work for them that they could not do themselves. Thy name shall be honored among the living and the dead. You shall have dreams and visions that shall be a comfort to you in your declining years. You shall live to see many changes, you shall live to see the power of God increased amongst the people of the Latter-Day Saints and you will aid in that work. You shall constantly teach the principles of righteousness and virtue and in doing so you will be surprised in the light that God shall give unto you and the words that you shall speak, and therefore I say unto you again, fear not nor be dismayed in their presence. For the Lord desires to speak through you to the daughters of Zion. You will be able to strengthen them in their faith and give them proper counsel. They shall come to you for counsel, and you shall not be wanting in imparting to them that which shall be a blessing unto them. Thou hast been faithful and true to all your covenants. Thou art of the royal seed, the chosen seed, and he will sustain you forever and you and yours shall be redeemed from the grave to mingle with the sanctified to sing Hosanas unto the Lord forever. You were preserved to come forth in this last age to perform a great work, thou hast been blest with sons and daughters that will honor thy name forever. Sister Bennion, be comforted and realize that the Lord loves you. You will make your Calling and elections. You shall be an elect Lady. You shall stand in the presence of the Redeemer and as long as you live you will associate with prophets and apostles. For thy name and good works are known among them, and your name is written in the Lambs Book of Life.
I seal these blessings upon you, with blessing of Eternal life to come forth in the morning of the first resurrection, with thy husband, friends and children in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
